Anambra Govt Commences Enforcement of New Colour Branding Commercial Buses

By: Our Correspondent/AWKAAnambra State government has announced commencement of fullenforcement of implementation of the new colour and branding forcommercial buses, shuttles and tricycles operating within the State.The Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Uchenna Okafor stressed thatgovernment will start impounding commercial buses, shuttles andtricycles that are yet to wear the new colour and branding today.Our correspondent reports that the Commissioner who made the official unveiling of the new colours of yellow and black at the State Secretariat, Awka was accompanied by relevant agencies and stakeholders including Drivers Welfare Association, Anambra Transport Management Agency, Vehicle Inspection Office, WillieWorkforce, Onitsha North Traffic Agency and Idemili North TrafficAgency.Commissioner Okafor explained that the move was informed by the need to have colour uniformity by commercial vehicles in the State, in line with the State government’s bid to sanitize the sector and consolidate on the existing security in the State.He pointed out that in the past, due to the colour riot among commercial vehicles in the State, security operatives found it difficult to identify vehicles used in committing.The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra Traffic Management Agency, ATMA, Mr. Patrick Obiefuna said that his men are ready to implement the enforcement to achieve the drive of the State government towards a stable and more prosperous Anambra State.Also speaking, the President General, Urban Drivers Welfare Association, Mr. Nnamdi Okafor said that the idea behind achieving uniformity among commercial vehicles should be commended, promising to help encourage drivers who are yet to comply with the new directive, to do so.He however, explained that about forty percent of the drivers havealready complied, but assured that before the end of the enforcement,a greater percentage more will comply.The colour branding for commercial vehicles operating in the State also comes with a new Anambra State Sticker.
