The Archbishop of Kaduna, His Grace, Most Reverend Matthew Man’Oso Ndagoso has expressed dismay over the practices of polluting the young people’s mind with hatred against others based on religion and ethnic affiliations.
His Grace stated this an interview with newsmen at the commemoration of the International Peace Day and the Flag-Off of Young Ambassadors for Peace (Ya4p) held at the Catholic Social Centre Independence Way, Kaduna on 2nd of October, 2018 with the theme “The Right to Peace: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights at 70”.
Archbishop Ndagoso was of the opinion that there can never be any meaningful development in any country without peaceful co-existence, adding that peaceful coexistence is an antecedent for development and that if Nigeria is looking forward to any meaningful development in the country then they must be ready to live in harmony.
He said “Why we are having this event is that the young people if we really want to bring lasting peace, we have to begin with them.
“For us Christians, Jesus came to reconcile with us humanity as Jesus Christ has made us ambassadors of peace and reconciliation, this is what we want to input into the young people.
“We hope our work today will catch fire because if catholic are doing it, Muslims and other various denominations are preaching and promoting peace, we hope these young ones will embrace the value of peace and our country will better for it” Bishop Ndagoso said.
Commenting on the inauguration of Young Ambassador for Peace Project, Catholic Archbishop of Kaduna said the Young Ambassador for Peace project is a welcome development that will change the mindset of the youth and commended the organizers ‘Development and Peace Caritas (JDPC) Kaduna Archdiocese for hosting the programme.
A student, Dominic Rita while expressing her view on the international day for peace shortly after finishing her debate said, the event has exposed her to know the importance of peace and by knowing this, she would like to be an advocate for peace.
According to her, peace in many ways affects every body’s life and to this end, she would want to sensitized her follow students and then take the message of peace to her community by introducing the need to live in peace with one another irrespective of religion and tribe.
