The U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard has commissioned a new American Space in the company of Minister of FCT, Honorable Muhammadu Bell, at the City Library in Abuja.
The new American Space will host a variety of educational and cultural programs to empower young Nigerians with innovative and life changing programs.
It also houses a wide selection of English language learning tools, including extensive online databases and an e-library.
The Space will offer all services, programs and resources to the public at no cost.
Ambassador Leonard noted that American Space programming focuses on English language learning and teacher training; Educational advising; Alumni networking; Cultural and outreach programs; and sharing of Information about the United States.
The Public Affairs section of the US Mission in Nigeria is collaborating with twelve other institutions in Nigeria that host American Spaces in Abuja, Bauchi, Calabar, Ibadan, Jos, Kano, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Maiduguri and Sokoto.
American Spaces exemplify the U.S. commitment to democracy and a citizen’s right to the free access to information.
With over 700 Spaces in 169 countries worldwide, American Spaces provide welcoming environments where visitors can connect and learn about the United States.
