Yellow Fever: WHO Vaccinates IDPs in 288 Politics Wards

The Field Communication Officer of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Chima Onuekwe has said that it will begin Yellow Fever Vaccination Campaign in 288 political wards in 25 local government areas of Borno State.

Dr. Onuekwe who disclosed this to newsmen on Friday at an interactive forum in Maiduguri informed that the 10 days vaccination campaign which will be carried out by over 3000 WHO ad-hoc Staff and Staff will focus on the internally Displaced persons ( IDPs) , because of their vulnerability and exposure to diseases as a result of the condition of the camps.

According to him, the vaccination will be carried out in the officially recognized IDPs camps, affirming that event will begin on 5th and ends on 14th February, adding that the vaccination campaign will target persons of age bracket 9 months to 45 years.

The Field officer also mentioned that the peculiarity of emergency situation of the displaced persons is the reason for the focus of the vaccination programmed at IDPs camps.

“We left the remaining two Local government areas of Marte and Abadam because of the inaccessibility of the areas.

“We are working with other partners to ensure that the IDPs are free from diseases. Inadequate vaccines, adequate funds and lack of reported case fever in other areas of the state is most reason for our concentration on the IDPs’ he stressed.
