In a bold demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to infrastructure revival, Yobe State received a flurry of road interventions on Monday, February 9, 2026, as the Federal Ministry of Works assured residents of the timely completion of the ₦75.47 billion Potiskum–Jakusko–Gashua Road while commissioning multiple emergency projects across the state.

The national media tour, part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, brought together officials of the Federal Ministry of Works, contractors, community leaders, the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Damaturu Branch, and journalists for a first-hand inspection of federal road projects critical to Yobe’s economic revival.

At the Potiskum–Jakusko–Gashua Road, Section I, Federal Controller of Works in Yobe, Engr. Nasir Dauda, addressed anxious residents, giving a firm assurance that the 79.4-kilometre corridor awarded to Messrs JRB Construction Limited in 2024 would meet its May 14, 2026 deadline.

Engr. Dauda explained that construction prioritized Chainage 49, a section ravaged by erosion and seasonal flooding, to ensure resilience against recurring damage.

“We are committed to restoring this vital road and improving safety and travel time for all road users,” he said.

Project Manager Engr. Kabir Fatai confirmed that over 1.5 kilometres of continuous reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) had already been completed, with vulnerable sections addressed first ahead of the rainy season.

NSE Damaturu Branch Chairman, Engr. Mustapha Abdullahi, hailed the choice of rigid pavement, confirming a 200-millimetre thickness, while emphasizing the economic and social benefits: “This project will reduce accidents, shorten travel time, and unlock economic activity across Yobe and beyond.”

The inspection tour also commissioned a 490-metre emergency access road at the College of Administration, Management and Technology (CAMTECH), Potiskum, completed in just three months.

Engr. Dauda highlighted the government’s commitment to student welfare, while Rector Mallam Ibrahim Bomai Zarma praised the quality of the project and called for further interventions to improve the institution’s infrastructure.

Two more projects were inaugurated in Potiskum town: the CABS/Graveyard Road and the Limited Rehabilitation of Hayin Gada Road both part of the Federal Government’s 260 nationwide Emergency and Special Intervention projects, aimed at restoring access, enhancing safety, and easing movement within local communities.

On behalf of the Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, CON, the projects were commissioned by Mr. Usman Mohammed, Vice-Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Yobe State Council.

He lauded the government’s timely and strategic intervention, describing it as “a demonstration of foresight and commitment to the people of Yobe.”

The team also inaugurated the 8.8-kilometre Damagum–Gubana Road, constructed by Messrs Petropan Energy Limited at ₦1.49 billion, linking several agrarian communities and facilitating the smooth transportation of farm produce.

Yerima of Fune and District Head of Damagum, Alhaji Idris Mai Saleh, hailed the project as a lifeline for local farmers, noting its potential to boost livelihoods and economic activity.

Finally, attention turned to the 54.5-kilometre Kaleyeri–Damaturu Road, awarded in 2019 to Messrs Ric Rock Construction Limited.

Engr. Dauda confirmed the contractor has fully returned to site, with earthworks underway in two sections and three kilometres of binder course already completed.

Project Engineer Engr. Ayodele Ajibogi assured that the highway would be delivered as scheduled, reiterating the government’s commitment to on-time completion.

As the delegation traversed the network of restored highways, the message was unmistakable: under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, abandoned and deteriorating roads are being resurrected, rural communities are being connected, and Yobe’s economic pulse is set for a significant boost.
