In a sweeping cash disbursement aimed at easing the burden on retirees nationwide, the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has released a hefty ₦3.9 billion in accumulated arrears to 91,146 pensioners under the Federal Government’s Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS).
The payout, which marks one of the largest single arrears released in recent years, follows the ₦32,000 pension increment approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as part of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
PTAD’s breakdown reveals the breadth of the intervention across four major pension departments:
₦1.9 billion to 59,865 retirees under the Parastatals Pension Department
₦830 million to 12,976 pensioners under the Civil Service Pension Department
₦620 million to 9,689 retirees in the Police Pension Department
₦551 million to 8,616 pensioners under the Customs, Immigration, and Prisons Pension Department
Executive Secretary of PTAD, Tolulope A. Odunaiya, described the payment drive as further evidence of the administration’s resolve to “clear outstanding arrears and restore dignity to senior citizens who gave decades of service to the nation.”
According to Odunaiya, the Directorate is accelerating efforts to ensure that no eligible retiree is left behind as the government pushes to modernise pension administration and stabilise the DBS platform.
The disbursement is expected to bring immediate relief to thousands of retirees who have long awaited the implementation of the increment and the backlog it generated.
The statement was signed by Olugbenga Ajayi, mnipr, Head of Corporate Communications, PTAD, on 14 November 2025.
