Nigeria’s air war against terrorism recorded a decisive breakthrough on December 14 as the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) launched a precision air interdiction that crippled a key terrorist logistics hub deep inside the Southern Tumbuns.

Acting on credible, time-sensitive intelligence, the Air Component of Joint Task Force Operation HADIN KAI zeroed in on Dabar Masara, an area long identified as a terrorist stronghold and workshop zone.

What followed was a tightly coordinated operation that blended surveillance, intelligence and firepower in one seamless strike.

The operation did not begin in the airspace over the Tumbuns.

It started days earlier with persistent intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) missions that exposed a pattern of suspicious activity.

Analysts observed sustained movement of armed elements and, more critically, a cluster of vehicles deliberately concealed beneath dense vegetation classic indicators of a functioning terrorist logistics base.

Repeated surveillance confirmed the site was not transient.

It was active, organised and strategically positioned to support terrorist operations across surrounding areas.

On the morning of December 14, NAF ISR assets returned to the target area, this time, the evidence was unmistakable.

Terrorists were seen manoeuvring within the location, moving around the concealed vehicles and operating with confidence that suggested a sense of cover.

With positive identification established and all Rules of Engagement strictly observed, the green light was given.

Strike aircraft moved in, delivering precise air interdiction against the identified targets, the engagement was swift, controlled and devastating.

Post-strike Battle Damage Assessment confirmed the destruction of the vehicles, critical assets used for transporting fighters, weapons and supplies.

Terrorist elements at the site were also neutralised, dealing a direct blow to the group’s operational capacity in the Southern Tumbuns.

Military sources describe the strike as a significant disruption of terrorist logistics in the region, limiting the ability of armed groups to regroup, resupply or launch further attacks.

The successful mission underscores the Nigerian Air Force’s growing reliance on intelligence-driven operations rather than broad-area strikes.

By combining sustained ISR with precision engagement, the NAF continues to sharpen its ability to dismantle terrorist networks while minimising collateral damage.

The operation also reinforces the role of air power in supporting ground forces under Operation HADIN KAI, providing a critical edge in difficult terrain where terrorists exploit cover and mobility.

As security forces intensify efforts to restore stability in the North-East, the strike at Dabar Masara sends a clear signal: concealment is no longer protection, and logistics hubs once the lifeline of terrorist operations are now prime targets.

For the Nigerian Air Force, the Southern Tumbuns strike is another assertion of resolve, precision and operational maturity in a long-running campaign to degrade terrorism and reclaim contested spaces.
