The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has deployed an emergency response team to Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following a bandit attack that disrupted lives and forced residents into distress.
The move, officials said, is aimed at coordinating immediate humanitarian intervention and assessing the full impact of the attack as security agencies work to stabilise the affected areas.
NEMA’s Director-General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, directed the Agency’s Minna Operations Office, which has jurisdiction over Kwara State, to temporarily relocate personnel to the affected communities to conduct an on-the-ground evaluation.
The team is tasked with determining the scale of damage, identifying urgent humanitarian needs and coordinating relief efforts to support victims.
The assessment is being carried out in collaboration with the Kwara State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and relevant security agencies, ensuring a coordinated response anchored on real-time field intelligence.
Officials said the joint framework is designed to prevent duplication, close response gaps and deliver targeted assistance to affected households.
NEMA confirmed that relief items, including food and non-food materials, have already been positioned to support displaced and affected residents.
Distribution, the agency said, will be guided by findings from the field assessment to ensure assistance reaches those most in need.
Mrs. Umar expressed sympathy with residents of Woro and Nuku and the Kwara State Government, describing the attack as unfortunate and disruptive.
She assured the communities of NEMA’s full support, stressing that the agency remains committed to alleviating suffering and restoring stability in the wake of security incidents.
The deployment underscores NEMA’s role in bridging security responses with humanitarian relief, particularly in communities impacted by violent attacks.
Officials said further interventions would be determined as assessments progress, with the priority on safeguarding lives, restoring dignity and supporting early recovery.
