Nigeria’s Stallions wrapped up their 2025 Africa Men’s Sevens campaign on a high note, defeating Ghana’s Leopards 19-12 in the “Jollof Derby” and securing 7th place in the tournament.
This victory not only brought rugby bragging rights but also playfully settled the long-standing Jollof rice rivalry between the two nations.
Nigeria started their campaign with a 17-5 loss to South Africa, but earned praise for their spirited defense and determination.
The Stallions bounced back with a 29-12 win over Burkina Faso, and although they lost to Zambia in the group stage and quarterfinals, they showed resilience and growth throughout the tournament.
Nigeria’s victory over Ghana in the “Jollof Derby” showcased the team’s determination and energy, ending the tournament on a positive note.
Nigeria’s 7th-place finish marks a significant improvement from their 11th-place standing in the previous edition of the tournament.
