The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming healthcare delivery through digital innovation, artificial intelligence, and data systems.

The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, made this declaration at the 5th Africa Digital Health Summit (ADHS 2025) in Lagos.

Dr. Salako emphasized that digital health is a crucial enabler in reforming Nigeria’s health sector, essential for achieving universal health coverage, reducing financial hardship, and improving healthcare outcomes.

The Minister announced the launch of the NDHI, aimed at driving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of ensuring every Nigerian accesses healthcare without financial hardship.

The initiative will:

– Create millions of jobs by leveraging Nigerian youth ingenuity
– Set standards and ensure interoperability of digital solutions

Dr. Salako emphasized the private sector’s critical role in this transformation, calling on innovators and investors to deepen their commitment as the government creates a conducive policy and investment climate.

The Minister stressed the importance of collaboration between federal and sub-national governments, innovators, and investors.

He also raised concerns over rising cyber threats and data privacy breaches in healthcare systems, emphasizing the need to protect digital health systems.

Dr. Salako reiterated that under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, health is a fundamental human right, and digital health solutions must prioritize equity, accessibility, and sustainability.
