As the ongoing American-Israeli carnage against the Palestinian people enters 342nd day, Abdullah Abu Shawesh, the Ambassador of the State of Palestine in Nigeria has bemeaoned on the statistics report which shows the tragic reality war is the darkest stages in modern history.
Shawesh who made this known to newsmen at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, described the statistics report as a “genocidal campaign” against Palestinian civilians.
He accused both Israel and the United States of violating international law and human rights while calling their actions “the law of the jungle.”
The Ambassador criticized countries that promote themselves as defenders of human rights while ignoring the ongoing crisis in Palestine.
Shawesh accused Israel of expanding its buffer zone along Gaza’s perimeter, confiscating agricultural land and worsening food shortages.
“The world watches as America and Israel continue their campaign of mass murder and destruction in broad daylight,” Shawesh said, emphasizing the humanitarian toll of the conflict.
He condemned the international community’s inaction, warning that the people of Gaza are enduring one of the worst humanitarian disasters in modern history.
According to him, only 69 aid trucks are allowed to enter the region daily, far below the pre-crisis average of 500 trucks.
He mentioned that the blockade, imposed by Israel, has left 2.3 million Palestinians facing catastrophic hunger, with food and medical supplies dwindling.
“On 9 October 2023, Israel announced its starvation campaign against Gaza.
“By December, Palestinians in Gaza made up 80 per cent of the people in the world experiencing famine or catastrophic hunger.
“Never in post-war history had a population been made to go hungry so quickly and so completely as was the case for the 2.3 million Palestinians living in Gaza.”
“41,000 Palestinians have been killed, 95,000 wounded, and 10,000 remain missing since the onset of the Israeli military assault.
“The devastating impact on education, particularly in Gaza, where 630,000 students are unable to attend school, and 90% of government school buildings have been destroyed.
“Thousands of students have been killed, injured, or left unable to continue their education, while many UNRWA schools have been repurposed as shelters for displaced families.
“Severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, exacerbated by Israel’s ongoing blockade. 80% of Gaza’s population is now experiencing famine or catastrophic hunger.
“Last Friday, American weapons in the hands of Israelis killed while she was expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people.
“The question here is, why did the US administration say nothing meaningful about her death and just mumble some empty words, repeating the same lip service it mentioned about the killing of Shireen Abu Akleh, the American Palestinian Christian? ” he said.
