National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has expressed confidence that the party is on course for a resounding victory in the 2027 general elections, citing its recent electoral triumphs and growing grassroots support across the country.
Speaking in Abuja while receiving members of the APC Press Corps on a condolence visit following the passing of his mother, Yilwatda said his late mother’s legacy of faith and discipline would continue to guide his leadership.
He also thanked the journalists for their solidarity, describing the visit as a reflection of the bond between the media and the ruling party.
Highlighting the APC’s performance in the last bye-elections, the party Chairman declared that the opposition had been “roundly defeated” in key states, including in the North, South-South and South-West.
“Our policies are progressive in nature. We don’t speak only to the elite; we address the poorest of the poor. That is why Nigerians continue to stand with us,” he stated.
Yilwatda insisted that the APC remains the most accepted political party nationwide, with victories recorded across all six geopolitical zones.
He stressed that the ruling party’s grassroots appeal would secure its dominance in 2027.
“Forget the rhetoric on TV. We are addressing Nigerians who believe in us and the bold steps taken by this government. Believe me, 2027 is a near-sure victory for us as a party,” he said.
Earlier in this address, the APC Press Corps Chairman, Jide Orintunsin expressed sympathy with Yilwatda and his family, describing the late matriarch as a devoted Christian and a pillar of faith who raised a worthy son now entrusted with the leadership of Nigeria’s ruling party.
Jide noted that though the death of a mother leaves an irreplaceable void, the family should take solace in her exemplary life.
He offered prayers for comfort, strength, and divine guidance for the APC chairman, urging him to continue to uphold the values instilled in him by his late mother.
“We share in your grief, but also in your joy, because Mama died in the Lord. We pray for God’s wisdom and comfort for you as you lead the party,” Jide said.
The Press Corps also used the occasion to congratulate Prof. Yilwatda on the APC’s victory in the just-concluded bye-elections, describing the outcome as an early testament to his leadership.
