The United Kingdom (UK) Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has on Tuesday picked their Expression of Interest Forms to contest for the Executive positions at its Congress coming up this Saturday 13th January 2024 in London.
The Chairman of the APC UK, Dr. Tunde Doherthy who lead some of the members to pick their forms at the National Secretariat Abuja while addressing the media informed that the election aimed at helping in strengthening the party ahead of the next general elections in 2027.
Doherthy called on the APC and Nigeria government to embrace Diaspora voting which have been clamoring by every Nigerians, saying even the National Assembly has introduced bill for the Diaspora voting.
He affirmed that the Nigerian citizens abroad have made a lot of remittances for the economic development of the country which is imperative for APC course.
“UK chapter of the APC has been very strong in mobilising for the party, adding that they will continue to work hard for the development of the party and the country at large.
“The APC UK is a vibrant chapter of our great party and has been led over the years by great men and women of honour. It has participated in campaigns of the party all over the world especially during the last general elections in Nigeria that ushered in Our dear president, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“The congress of the APC UK comes up this Saturday 13th January 2024, some of us will be heading back tonight to continue with our campaigns amongst our members. The campaigns so far has taken us across the length and breadth of UK and just last we toured the UK midlands, we were in Leicester, Birmingham and Walsall”.
“Nigerians to keep hope alive because President Bola Tinubu has started putting in measures to strengthen the economy with the expected production of petroleum resources by the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)” he said.
Earlier, Suleiman Argungu, the National Organizing Secretary of APC who educated the aspirats on the provisions of the party constitution advised the members of APC UK to try to avoid litigation during or after the upcoming election, but abide by the law of the party so that they have the right and privileges of the party.
“Politics in Nigeria is local, when a group or association joins the party, APC will surely welcome such group and shall register individual, in their respective wards. Up still now, Nigerians cannot vote aside Nigeria, therefore it makes it Local, and you must have to come home to cast your vote.
“When a group up to 30, or more reside in any country outside Nigeria may establish a chapter of the party and shall enjoy full benefits of the party provided that no Citi shall have more than one chapter. The APC constitution also said those residening outside Nigeria may establish one National chapter in the country of residents which is what we are trying to emphasize.
“So we are only trying to fullfil the provisions of the party constitution. That’s why we are emphasising that for you to be legitimately executive members of the Citi or chapter that you have to fulfill all the requirements provided in the constitution. Nobody is creating any problems for their members but all we are saying is to abide by the law of the party so that you have the right and privileges to say you dare a member of the party.
“The reason why l am telling you this is to educate you on the law guiding the Party to avoid misunderstanding. Since we came, we have try to bring the two groups together.
“We have no reason you leaving outside country with different fractions. We want as much as possible to bring you together so that we all be proud of Nigerians living in any part of the world” Argungu said.
