Speaking to journalists after the President’s Democracy Day address to the National Assembly, Senator Williams argued that individuals have the right to leave a party that’s not serving their interests and join another that better aligns with their values.

The Lawmaker dismissed concerns that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is driving Nigeria towards a one-party state due to the recent wave of defections from opposition parties.

According to Senator Williams, the All Progressives Congress (APC) isn’t coercing anyone to join, and people are free to make their own decisions about their party affiliation.

When asked about the possibility of Nigeria becoming a one-party state, Senator Williams expressed surprise at the concern, saying, “If your party isn’t working for you, you change. It’s a self-decision.” He concluded by stating, “Even if all Nigerians end up in the APC, so be it.”
