In a move that underscores the rising urgency around Nigeria’s escalating security crisis, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Monday launched an intensified military sweep across Kebbi State, directing troops to “leave no corridor unchecked” in the hunt for students abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS), Maga in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.

During an operational tour of the troubled axis, the Army Chief delivered what officers describe as his toughest field directive since taking office.

Addressing battle-ready troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, Shaibu ordered a relentless, intelligence-driven offensive, warning that failure is not an option.

“We must find these children. Act decisively and professionally on all intelligence. Success is not optional,” the COAS charged during his briefing to frontline commanders.

In a notable shift from previous rescue models, Gen. Shaibu formally folded local vigilantes and hunter groups into the mission’s operational framework, branding them “critical partners” with unmatched terrain advantage.

Their collaboration, he said, will be key to tracking, isolating, and neutralizing the armed group behind the abduction.

“Together, we will restore peace and ensure children can attend school safely,” he told the gathered security and community operatives.

Before engaging the troops, the COAS visited the palace of the Traditional Ruler of Danko, Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim Allaje, where he offered official condolences and firm assurances.

He subsequently met with the Principal of GGCSS Maga, Hajiya Rabi Musa Magaji, stating unequivocally that the military’s commitment is to rescue every abducted schoolgirl unharmed.

Reinforcing discipline and operational integrity, Shaibu admonished troops to maintain professionalism, adhere strictly to rules of engagement, and sustain an unbroken offensive tempo until peace is restored in Kebbi and adjoining communities.

The rescue operation, now one of the most aggressive in recent months, signals a renewed federal push to curb mass school abductions that continue to challenge Nigeria’s national security architecture.
