The Nigerian Army on Wednesday escalated its push for a stronger, better-equipped, and more agile counter-insurgency force as top commanders of its Combat Service Support (CSS) Corps began a four-day operational tour of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) in the North-East home to Nigeria’s longest-running security warfront.

The high-powered delegation, led by the Commander Corps of Supply and Transport (CCST), Major General Nansak Shagaya, also included Corps Commander Ordnance (CCO), Major General Abdullahi Ibrahim; Commander Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (CC EME), Major General Adeyinka Adereti; and Corps Commander Medical, Brigadier General Innocent Enwuchola.

The Commanders were received at Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, by the Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force North-East Operation HADIN KAI, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar.

Shagaya, speaking on behalf of the visiting team, said the four-day visit running from 26 to 29 November is aimed at carrying out a rigorous assessment of logistics, mobility, maintenance, and medical infrastructure across the theatre.

He noted that sustaining the tempo of counter-insurgency operations requires a logistics ecosystem “as strong and agile as the frontline troops themselves.”

“We are here to evaluate the current capacity to sustain ongoing and future operations,” he said, praising OPHK troops for their sacrifices and urging them to remain undeterred despite operational challenges.

Calling the Theatre Commander’s operational brief “insightful and highly commendable,” Shagaya assured troops that their requests and concerns would be escalated to Army Headquarters for action.

Across their separate remarks, the CSS commanders delivered a unified message combat success depends on logistics discipline, equipment serviceability, and medical readiness.

Medical Corps Commander, Brigadier General Enwuchola, applauded the troops’ bravery and revealed plans to upgrade the 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital (7 DMSH) to strengthen frontline casualty care.

Corps Commander Ordnance, Major General Ibrahim, highlighted the centrality of logistics to operational outcomes, assuring that all identified requirements will receive strategic intervention.

Commander Corps of EME, Major General Adereti, praised OPHK for continually degrading insurgent networks and urged field commanders to “treat equipment maintenance as a command responsibility,” stressing optimal deployment of EME personnel to keep platforms serviceable.

In his response, Major General Abubakar thanked the Commanders for their visit and emphasised that logistics remains the backbone of any successful military operation.

He expressed confidence that the assessment would translate into boosted operational capacity, improved equipment uptime, and strengthened combat service support performance across the theatre.

The ongoing assessment covers HQ 7 Division, Sector 1 in Maiduguri, as well as Sectors 2 and 3 key operational zones in the multi-sector structure of OPHK.

The visit featured detailed briefings, strategy sessions, exchange of souvenirs, and group photographs underscoring the significance of inter-corps collaboration at a time when insurgent elements continue to seek relevance across the region.

As operations intensify toward the end of the year, the Nigerian Army appears determined to sharpen its logistics backbone, reinforce medical support, and tighten equipment maintenance critical pillars in sustaining battlefield victories and securing lasting stability in the North-East.
