Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 63 Brigade have pulled off a high-risk rescue mission, freeing a senior officer, Major M.D. Josiah, from the grip of gunmen who abducted him in Bomadi on September 8.
The operation, carried out on September 9 at Tuomor Waterside in Bomadi Local Government Area, followed days of painstaking intelligence work and close collaboration with local leaders and residents.

ILIYASU BAWA RIJAU, the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army in a press statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday informed that Soldiers closed in on the kidnappers, overwhelming them and securing the officer’s release.
Major Josiah sustained gunshot wounds during the operation and has since been evacuated to a military medical facility, where he is reported to be receiving stable and adequate care.
Commander of 63 Brigade/Sector 1 Joint Task Force South-South Operation Delta Safe, Brigadier General M.A. Shonibare, hailed the troops’ “bravery and tactical precision,” stressing that the Nigerian Army remains resolute in protecting lives and restoring peace in Delta and beyond.
He also lauded the Bomadi communities for their support, describing their cooperation as proof of the growing trust between the military and the people in confronting crime and insecurity.
“The success of this mission shows our capacity to respond swiftly and decisively to security threats. The Nigerian Army will not relent in its duty to defend the nation,” Shonibare assured.
The daring rescue underscores the Army’s determination to crush criminal networks in the Niger Delta and safeguard both citizens and personnel.
