The Nigerian Army has dismissed as “malicious, unfounded, and aimed at blackmail” the trending social media allegations suggesting internal power tussles, welfare neglect, and financial exploitation within the 90 Battalion in Koko, Delta State.

In a strongly worded rebuttal on Wednesday, Headquarters 6 Division of the Nigerian Army condemned the publication as a calculated campaign to smear the battalion’s command structure and undermine public trust in the institution.

Speaking through its Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Lt.-Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, the Division described the claims as the handiwork of mischief merchants desperate to create discord within the ranks.

He stressed that routine postings within the Nigerian Army are conducted strictly on professionalism never on religious, tribal or loyalty lines as alleged.

“The suggestion that 90 Battalion conducts duty postings based on religious or personal loyalty is not only false but malicious,” Danjuma stated. “It is a clear attempt at institutional and command blackmail.”

He emphasised that the Nigerian Army operates with zero tolerance for corruption, welfare sabotage, religious bias, or any form of misconduct.

According to him, the Commanding Officer of 90 Battalion has carried out his duties professionally and within available resources contrary to the narrative being pushed online.

The Division reiterated that the Army maintains structured channels for addressing administrative concerns, warning that any soldier bypassing these procedures to sponsor falsehoods online is acting in bad faith and could face sanctions.

“Any real infraction will be duly investigated,” Danjuma assured, noting that the allegation of extortion though unsubstantiated will also receive appropriate scrutiny.

Calling on the public to disregard the viral publication, he reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to safeguarding communities across the Niger Delta and maintaining the highest standards of accountability.

“The good people of the Niger Delta Region should remain assured of our commitment to their safety and security,” he added.

The Army maintained that its integrity would not be compromised by what it termed a desperate attempt to malign its officers and men.
