The Chief of Army Staff-COAS, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai says his vision for the Premier Educational Institution and the Nigeria Army University, Biu is to serve as a centre of academic excellence in education, research and innovation for human capacity development, military science and technology for national development and for the progress of humanity.
General Buratai who is also the Chairman, University Governing Council stated this at the formal presentation of appointment letter to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor David Iliya Malgwi at the Army Headquarters Conference Hall Abuja on Monday.
Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai informed that the university effort will be channeled towards not only developing Nigeria Army capacity to compete professionally and responsibly with other Armies of the world but also graduate civilian manpower, well equipped to leave and work in the margin competitive world.
According to him, the focal point of the university is to serve as solution centres, technological and operational problems of the Nigerian Army, military and the nation at large.
The COAS pointed out that the University is also designed to create the critical mass required for research, innovation, testing and development in the 21st century settings and to provide excellence, ingenuity, creativity and unique competences in intellectual outcome.
General Buratai who said the institution was approved by the Federal Executive Council on the 3rd of April, 2018 and commenced academic activities with the admission and registration of pioneer’s students, adding that the importance of learning in the age of computerization and technological advancement will not be over emphasized.
He called all and sundry to contribute positively both human and material resources towards the university development and urged the university communities to ensure all hands are on deck to nature the institution.
In his acceptance speech, the Pioneer Vice Chancellor, Professor David Iliya Malgwi ensured that all measured will be properly addressed to ensure that the dreams of the founding father and the implementation committee were met.
He informed that the institution has 500 academic and non-academic staff filled with a cream of well celebrated professor with high international repute, matriculated about 1000 undergraduate into five faculties and 39 program among others.
He promised to discharged his duties to the best of his ability in accordance to the set goals and norms of Nigerian Army with the guide of the National University Commission (NUC).
“I assure you that l will not fail yu with God on my side. Please advise me were necessary, so that we can all together left this University to a height above all heights.
“I appreciate the COAS as the Chairman TGC of NAUB for supporting me throughout this period. l appropriate the for the PSO’s of Army Headquarters (AHQ) and other personnel for their relentless efforts in maintaining the tempo of the COAS vision of the University Professor Malgwi said”.
