In a decisive victory that electrified the Ekiti Parapo College Ido-Ekiti Old Students Association (EPCOSA), renowned media professional and human rights advocate, Lanre Arogundade, has emerged as the new National President of the association.

The former NUJ Lagos Council Chairman and ex-NANS President clinched the top position with a commanding 275 votes to 32, defeating academic heavyweight Prof. Olu Adeleye during EPCOSA’s 2025 Annual General Meeting and Reunion held on November 22.

The results were formally announced by EPCOSA Electoral Committee spokesperson, Professor Oluwatoyin Babatunde, who described the elections as transparent, competitive, and reflective of the association’s evolving leadership profile.

Arogundade succeeds another prominent media practitioner, Mr. Dotun Adekanmbi, who steered the association through a transformational four-year term, including the landmark celebration of the school’s 70th anniversary in 2024.

The incoming president is now expected to lead EPCOSA’s new executive team for the 2025–2027 service year.

In his acceptance speech, Arogundade, the Executive Director of the International Press Centre (IPC) and one of Nigeria’s most decorated media trainers pledged to consolidate past gains while steering the association toward innovation, institutional stability, and strategic development.

He revealed that the new executive will harmonize ideas from all EPCOSA Sets and Branches to craft a two-year strategic plan aimed at strengthening the school’s learning environment.

“Our new Exco comprises individuals with diverse professional strengths. Together, we will secure the school environment, upgrade facilities, motivate students, and enhance staff welfare,” he said. “With unity of purpose, we will overcome every challenge ahead.”

The newly elected EPCOSA leadership boasts a distinguished blend of professionals across Nigeria’s top economic, legal, engineering, and academic sectors:

Dr. Olusola Ogunsina – Vice President; Fellow of ICAN and CITN

Engr. Deji Afolabi – General Secretary; COREN-certified Civil Engineer

Mrs. Adeola Babatunde – Assistant Secretary; Senior Assistant Registrar, BOUESTI

Mr. Ilesanmi Adesuyi – Financial Secretary/Treasurer; Electrical consultant and former Ikeja DISCO official

Mr. Samson Ekundayo – Auditor; ICAN Fellow and principal partner of EFS & Co.

Mr. Kayode Okimoba – Legal Adviser; Attorney & Notary Public

Mr. Ayo Ajiboye – Public Relations Officer/Social Secretary; former NUJ Ekiti Chairman and lecturer

The executive team is expected to fast-track EPCOSA’s strategic repositioning as the association deepens contributions to its alma mater, Ekiti Parapo College founded in 1954 as the first and only Ekiti-wholly owned community secondary school.

Members say Arogundade’s election signals a major shift toward more dynamic, advocacy-driven leadership.

With his decades-long experience in journalism, civic education, and organisational development, expectations are high that EPCOSA will witness accelerated reforms and stronger national visibility.

The association also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the continued development of Ekiti Parapo College, nurturing future generations of Ekiti leaders.
