Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, CFR, FCNA, has awarded scholarships to 1,000 undergraduates from Kano State to study at the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State, in one of the largest single interventions in tertiary education sponsorship by a Nigerian lawmaker.
According to his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, the award letters will be distributed in Kano on Saturday, September 20, while the official matriculation ceremony for the beneficiaries will take place on Monday, September 22, at the university campus in Katsina.
The scheme, executed through the Barau I Jibrin Foundation (BIJF), is designed to promote academic excellence and open doors of opportunity for thousands of youths in Kano.
This latest initiative builds on Senator Barau’s record of investing in education. Last year, he sponsored 70 students abroad for postgraduate studies in cutting-edge fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Forensic Sciences. In addition, 300 students are currently pursuing postgraduate degrees across six top Nigerian universities, including Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, University of Ibadan, University of Lagos, Obafemi Awolowo University, and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
With the new scholarships, Senator Barau, who also serves as First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament has further cemented his reputation as one of the country’s foremost champions of human capital development.
