The Nigerian Navy on Saturday delivered a thunderous statement of sporting supremacy, as the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Male Volleyball Spikers Team overpowered arch-rivals Customs Service to capture the 2025 National Volleyball Super Cup, sealing a season that has rewritten the hierarchy of Nigerian club volleyball.

Under the bright lights of the Moshood Abiola Indoor Stadium, the Navy Spikers turned the championship final into a display of raw power, precision and mental steel. From the first serve to the last decisive spike, the contest unfolded as a clash of ambition and endurance but it was the Navy that dictated the tempo, controlled the rhythm and ultimately claimed the crown.

The Super Cup final, played on Saturday, February 7, 2026, drew a packed arena of sports lovers, military personnel and volleyball stakeholders, all treated to a pulsating contest that showcased the very best of Nigerian volleyball.

Every rally carried weight, every point sparked roars from the stands, as the Navy Spikers relentlessly outmaneuvered and outmuscled the Customs Service side to lift the prestigious trophy.

The Super Cup tournament, featuring six elite teams drawn from the 2025 National Volleyball Premier League, is designed to determine the nation’s best club at the close of the season while serving as a talent pool for future national team selections.

For the Navy, however, it became the final stamp of authority on a campaign already defined by dominance.

Having already conquered the 2024 and 2025 National Volleyball Premier League seasons, with several players winning individual honours along the way, the CNS Spikers arrived at the Super Cup as favourites.

They departed as champions unquestioned and unchallenged.

Throughout the tournament, the Navy’s hallmarks were unmistakable: tactical discipline, seamless coordination and unbreakable composure under pressure.

Those qualities reached their peak in the final, where the team’s superior organisation and mental toughness proved decisive.

The Navy’s dominance extended beyond the men’s competition.

The CNS Female Volleyball Spikers Team also made its mark, finishing third to claim the bronze medal, behind the Chief of Army Staff Female Volleyball Team.

The double podium finish underscored the depth of talent and investment in volleyball across the Nigerian Navy.

CNS Salutes a Champion’s Mindset
Reacting to the triumph, the Chief of the Naval Staff hailed the Spikers for embodying excellence, resilience and professionalism.

“This achievement reflects a winning mentality built on sound preparation, discipline and team spirit,” the CNS said. “Defending the league title for the second consecutive year and adding the Super Cup in quick succession is no accident, it is the reward of consistency and hard work.”

He praised the players for representing the Nigerian Navy with distinction, noting that their conduct and competitiveness have set a new benchmark for Nigerian volleyball.

No Room for Complacency
While celebrating the historic run, the CNS warned the team against resting on its laurels.

“Success raises expectations,” he cautioned. “With every trophy comes greater responsibility. You must continue to push higher standards.”

He reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to sustained investment in player development, coaching excellence and talent grooming, aimed at preserving national dominance and positioning the team for international success.

Beyond the silverware, the CNS highlighted sports as a strategic pillar of naval readiness, stressing its role in building physical fitness, mental resilience and unity among personnel.

“Sport keeps our people motivated, disciplined and prepared to safeguard Nigeria’s maritime interests,” he said, linking the volleyball triumph to the Navy’s broader operational mission.

As the final whistle cut through the Abuja night, the message to Nigeria’s volleyball community was unmistakable: the Nigerian Navy is no longer chasing the standard, it is defining it.
