BHCPF Meeting: Stakeholders Pledge to Deepen Primary Healthcare in Nigeria

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has reaffirmed its commitment to providing quality healthcare to Nigerians through the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF).

At the 11th Ministerial Oversight Committee meeting, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, highlighted the progress made, with over 37 million Nigerians accessing healthcare services through the BHCPF.

According to him, the key achievements include

– *Healthcare Access*: The BHCPF has enabled over 37 million Nigerians to access healthcare services, demonstrating the impact of strong partnerships among government tiers, civil society, and development partners.

– *Fund Disbursement*: The Ministerial Oversight Committee has approved the disbursement of over ₦32 billion to enhance service delivery in over 8,000 primary healthcare centers across Nigeria.

– *Tuberculosis Response*: The federal government has made provisions in the 2025 budget to procure more drugs to meet the growing demand resulting from improved TB detection efforts.

Ali Pate informed that the future plan are

– *Revised Guidelines*: The revised BHCPF Guidelines 2.0 will be disseminated before the end of Q3 2025, providing an updated framework for implementation, coordination, and accountability.

– *Mini-DHIS Rollout*: The phased rollout of the Mini District Health Information System (Mini-DHIS) will begin in July 2025, enhancing real-time data visibility and decision-making at the PHC level.

The meeting concluded with a renewed pledge to maintain momentum, strengthen sub-national commitment, and scale innovative solutions to drive Nigeria closer to achieving 70% population coverage for basic healthcare services.
