The Eagle Officers’ Mess in Sokoto pulsed with military pride and precision as the 8 Division, Nigerian Army, rolled out full ceremonial splendour to decorate four senior officers elevated to the rank of Brigadier General.
It was a night of applause, affirmation, and deep emotion, an unmistakable reminder of the weight of service and the honour it commands.
Presiding over the ceremony, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander Sector 2, Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, delivered a charge befitting the moment.
He described the promotions as “well-deserved milestones,” framing them as the natural consequence of grit, discipline, and unwavering duty.
With a voice steady but warm, Ajose praised the newly decorated generals, noting that their elevation spoke not only to their individual brilliance but to the enduring strength of the Nigerian Army.
“I would be honoured to serve alongside you anywhere in the future,” he told them, a rare and powerful endorsement from a commander whose words carry weight across the theatre.
The GOC then turned to the families often unseen, but never unfelt.
He saluted their sacrifices, calling them the “quiet backbone of every military achievement” and urging them to continue offering the support that steels officers for the battlefield and the boardroom alike.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, Brigadier General Abdulmalik Aboki Adamu struck a tone of gratitude and resolve.
He thanked the Chief of Army Staff for the confidence reposed in them and hailed Major General Ajose’s leadership as both “visionary and inspiring.”
“We are humbled by this honour,” Adamu said. “We pledge to redouble our efforts, exceed expectations, and serve our nation with integrity and distinction.”
He also paid tribute to the officers’ spouses whose moral fortitude, he said, had carried them through the toughest professional trenches.
Those decorated included:
Brigadier General Mansur Tijani – Deputy Chief of Staff, Administration
Brigadier General Husaini Toro – Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations
Brigadier General Abdulmalik Aboki Adamu – Commander, 58 Signals Brigade
Brigadier General David Chidozie Ibeh – Commander, 8 Division Medical Services and Hospital
The evening blended strict military protocol with moments of reflection, as senior officers offered goodwill messages that underscored how demanding and rewarding the climb to generalship can be.
A round of light refreshments and a ceremonial group photograph drew the curtain on a night that vibrated with esprit de corps and fresh resolve.
