The International Press Centre (IPC), Lagos-Nigeria has celebrated the Nigerian woman on the occasion of the year 2022 International Women’s Day.

It commended the enormous contributions of the Nigerian woman to Nation building over the pre-independence, independence and post-independence periods.

IPC acknowledged the giant strides of the Nigerian woman across the social, economic and development spheres.

It regreted that the accomplishments have however not translated to commensurate women political representation in government.

According to IPC, with the 2023 elections barely one year away, called on all men and women – young and old – to team up to break the political bias against women.

It enjoined all to take the following steps:
• As members of political parties support and vote for affirmative action in electing party official and candidates in elections;
• As women, come out in larger numbers to vie for political party offices;
• As women, come out in larger numbers to seek party tickets as candidates;
• As citizens obtain your PVC and be ready to vote for credible female candidates in the 2023 elections;
• As citizens, support legislations that would enhance better women representation and call on your representatives in the Senate, House of Representatives and House of Assembly to vote in favour of such laws.

In line with the United Nations’ Theme for this year’s International Women’s Day, let there be: “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow”.

We CAN and we SHOULD BREAK THE GENDER BIAS.
