The Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) and the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) are set to honour Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, today in recognition of her remarkable contributions to the growth and development of volleyball in the country.
The announcement was made by Engineer Musa Nimrod, President of the CAVB Beach Volleyball Commission, during an interview at the ongoing 2025 CAVB U18 Beach Volleyball Continental Championship holding at Jabi Lake in Abuja.
Nimrod commended Senator Tinubu’s unwavering support for volleyball, especially during the 2025 Africa Club Championship hosted in Nigeria, where she attended both the opening and closing ceremonies. He described her involvement as a significant morale booster for young female athletes.
“Senator Oluremi Tinubu played a huge role in supporting the game of volleyball, particularly during the Africa Club Championship,” Nimrod stated. “Her presence at those events lifted the morale of the girl-child and demonstrated that their efforts are appreciated at the highest levels.”
He also praised the impact of the First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative, noting its influence in motivating young athletes across the country.
“Our teams have shown incredible discipline, strength, and patriotism,” he said. “These outcomes are the result of years of strategic planning, investment, and crucial support from stakeholders like the First Lady. That is why we named her our Patron — she embodies hope and encouragement for Nigerian youth.”
Nimrod added that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has brought renewed optimism to Nigeria’s sports sector, particularly in youth engagement and development.
- Meanwhile, anticipation is high for an all-Nigerian final in the girls’ category of the championship, as Nigeria I is set to face Nigeria II at 3:00 PM today at Jabi Lake, Abuja.
