The Minister for Foreign Affairs (MFA), Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar has on Sunday congratulated the Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India, His Excellency, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, on the 76th Republic Day anniversary, January 26, 2025.

This was contained in a press statement by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the Acting Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and made available to newsmen in Abuja.

The celebration is a significant event, marking India’s transition to a republic after gaining independence from British colonial rule.

The Minister informed that with the establishment of diplomatic relations decades ago, Nigeria and India have maintained strong ties and strategic partnerships in global affairs.

Tuggar stressed that the two countries have witnessed a long history of cooperation and collaboration in various areas and have equally worked closely together on a range of initiatives aimed at enhancing political and economic prosperity.

According to him, both countries share certain similarities such as multi-religious, multi-lingual and multi-ethnicity societies.

“Nigeria has been strengthening its ties with other nations, including India, through various partnerships and collaborations. For instance, Nigeria recently joined the BRICS bloc as a partner nation, alongside 12 other countries.

“This move aimed to promote economic cooperation and development among member states.

“It is, therefore, a great honour to extend our very sincere wishes to you, the government, and the people of India, the largest democracy in the world on the auspicious occasion of your Republic Day.

“The Government of Nigeria appreciates the excellent relations between our two countries and the efforts we are making to build on these firm foundations for the benefit of our people.

“We therefore wish the government and the people of the Republic of India, peace, prosperity, progress and Nigeria’s continuing friendship and support.
