The newly elected National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Chris Isiguzo has assured that the Union must be professionally run to earn her respect nationally and internationally with the welfare of members at the centre stage of all its programmes and activities.
He made this known to newsmen during his acceptance speech shortly after the swearing in ceremony at the 6th Triennial Delegates Conference at Abeokuta, Ogun State on 4th of October, 2018 South-West, Nigeria.
Comrade Isiguzo reiterate his readiness to re-position and refocus NUJ to ensure effective leadership; embark on review of the constitution to make for professionalism and remove ambiguities and enhance the welfare of members.
The NUJ President Elect also promised to re-position the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ), fight non-payment of salaries by some media owners, and to catalyze the establishment of stabilization fund to end high rate of bankruptcy in the media industry with resultant loss of thousands of jobs by colleagues.
“It is with utmost humility that we once again accept this responsibility to Rescue our Union, the journey of which has just begun today.
“We express our profound gratitude to well wishers, colleagues and supporters across the country for this great show of endorsement, prayers and solidarity to Rescue Mission Project.
“We congratulate co-contestants for their doggedness and for equally running issue based campaigns and their visions for the Union, special accolade go to the immediate past President, Comrade Waheed Odusile for rare display of maturity and candour.
“We thank the Credentials Committee for conducting one of the freest, fairest and transparent elections in the history of the Union.
“For our esteemed delegates who traveled far and near to Abeokuta for the conference, we express our undiluted gratitude and wish them journey mercies to their various destinations.
“We thank the Almighty God for successful and accident-free trips during the electioneering campaigns, not just to RMO team, but also our co contestants, as we view our great Union as one Family.
“We have no doubt that by God’s Grace and through your support; the Mission as enunciated in our campaign materials and programmes is possible and achievable” Comrade Isiguzo stressed.
