In a thunderous declaration that signals a new war doctrine against insurgency, the Chief of Army Staff, LT General Waidi Shaibu, has ordered Nigeria’s elite Special Forces to seize total battlefield dominance and wipe out terrorists across the country.
During his maiden operational visit to the 4 Special Forces Command in Doma on Tuesday, the Army Chief made it clear: the days of reactive engagements are over.
“Terrorists will find no sanctuary anywhere within Nigeria’s territory,” he warned.
Addressing battle-ready troops of the 4 Special Forces Command and the Nigerian Army Special Forces School, Lieutenant General Shaibu charged them to intensify high-impact, intelligence-driven operations designed to dismantle and neutralise criminal networks threatening national security.
Shaibu emphasised that the evolving security environment demands speed, surprise and superior combat readiness.
According to him, precision-driven and intelligence-led missions must now define military engagements.
“The era of waiting to respond is gone. We must dictate the tempo, dominate the battlespace and decisively defeat every adversary,” he declared.
The Army Chief described the Special Forces as the tip of the spear in Nigeria’s counterterrorism architecture, a highly trained strike force capable of rapid deployment and surgical operations.
Earlier, Gen Shaibu received operational briefings from the Commander, 4 Special Forces Command, Major General Olurotimi Azubuike Awolo, and the Commandant of the Nigerian Army Special Forces School, Brigadier General Umar Faruk Abubakar.
Expressing satisfaction with operational readiness and training standards, the COAS approved the immediate construction of additional accommodation blocks and critical facilities within the cantonment, a move aimed at strengthening training capacity, operational efficiency and troop welfare.
Shaibu assured officers and soldiers that their welfare and that of their families remains a top priority under his leadership.
“A well-supported, professionally grounded force is essential to sustaining operational dominance,” he said, pledging sustained investment in logistics, advanced training and modern combat enablers.
Security analysts view the visit as a strong signal that the Army leadership intends to reposition the Special Forces as a decisive shock unit capable of overwhelming insurgent strongholds and criminal enclaves nationwide.
In a symbolic act underscoring discipline and sustainability within military formations, the COAS and his Principal Staff Officers planted trees within the Canton mental reinforcing a culture of responsibility even amid war preparations.
But beyond symbolism, the message from Doma was unmistakable: Nigeria’s Special Forces have been handed a clear mandate take the fight to the enemy, strike with precision, and ensure there is no hiding place for those who threaten the nation’s peace.
The battle lines, it appears, have been sharply redrawn.
