The Apostolic Nuncio to Nigeria, His Excellency Archbishop Antonio Guido Filipazi has emphasis the need for a stronger collaboration between the Catholic Church and Niger State Government for the development of the state.
Archbishop Filipazi who stated this when he paid a courtesy visit to Niger State Governor, Governor Sani Bello at the Government house Minna as part of his 3-days working visit to the diocese urged the State Government to see Catholic Church as partners in progress in bringing peace and tranquility to the people.
Representing His Holiness, Pope Francis, Apostolic Nuncio also emphasized the need to give more attention to the young people as their future, the church and government is in the hands of the youth of today.
Responding, Governor Sani Bello who was represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Katso call for unity and the need to shun religious bigotry as Islam and Christianity teaches peace and love for one another while cautioning religious clerics and their followers to be diplomatic in their words and actions.
He urged e youth to be more proactive on issues of drug abuse, violence and political thuggery, adding that religious institution is the best forum which faithful can be made to change their perceptions about the government.
According to him, Pope Francis is right by calling on all to give attention to the young people especially at this point when they seem to be frustrated by the happenings around and relying on drugs for solitude.
He thanked the Catholic Church for their efforts in pioneering the drive to restore peace to the Nation and assured of his administration’s commitment to carrying everybody along irrespective of political inclinations.
In his remark, His Lordship Most Rev Dr. Igwemezie thank the government for the close relationship been enjoyed by both religion in Niger State and seek for a stronger bond.
