Dekeri receives certificate of return, affirms to amend agricultural law to boost farmers outputs

The House of Representatives member elect, representing Etsako West Federal Constituency of Edo State under All Progressives Congress (APC), Honorable Dekeri Sunday Anamero has affirmed to lobby to amend agricultural law that will impact, boost and rebrand farmers outputs in his constituency and Nigeria in general into international market.

This, he said, would help his constituency contribute to boost the economic fall out of the country, if the agricultural law would be amended.

Hon. Dekeri gave the affirmation in an interview with newsmen shortly after receiving his Certificate of Return from the Chairman, Independent National Electroal Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu as member elect on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to him, the people of his constituency are predominant farmers, saying he would do his best to ensure their farming outputs would not be wasted but be of economic profit to the nation, informed that Etsako is the economic hub of Edo State.

“You know our people are predominantly farmers, l am going to do everything possible to ensure that we engaged farmers. We need an enabling law that would impact positively on our farmers outputs.

“Of course, you also know that Etsako is one of the economic hub of Edo State. I want to specially thanked my people for electing me to represent their interest in the National Assembly and l dedicated this certificate of return to them.

“I am proud of my people, all l can say is that, you have sent me here on errands, and l have no choice other than to work for you. As long as Nigeria parliament is concern, whatever they do, l will do it for my people” Dekeri noted.

Speaking on the challenges affecting his community, especially erosion due to mining, Dekeri maintained that he would ensure needed attention is given by the House with the support of other House members to nip it in the butt and address the issue.

He also vowed to pursue with vigor the pending Nigeria Minerals and Mining Act of 2007 that needed to be addressed in order for the law to effectively address and safeguard issues for mining host communities.

“We have number of issues ravaging my community, especially on the erosion meance that is gulling everywhere. That’s one of the areas needed urgent attention. We need three LGA affected by erosion, Etsako West, Central that are battling the erosion, by the grace of God,l shall call the attention of the House to address the issue.

“We have solid minerals, mines everywhere. If you go to Etsako, you will see mining of limestone, l will also pursue with vigor the pending the Nigeria Minerals and Mining Act of 2007 that needs to be addressed in order for the law to effectively address safeguard issues for mining host.

“There is no current efforts the legislature are putting into amending the law that is increasingly becoming obsolete in the face of best practices in solid mineral governance” he laments.
