Disengaged Lecturers of Federal University Dutsinma Katsina State has cried out to the Federal Government to prevail on management of the institution to obey the directive to recall back the affected lecturer.

According to the lecturers, there was no reason to recall some of the disengaged staff and keep others on endless waiting list.

The lecturers said that their appointments were terminated in September, 2016, by the former Vice Chancellor Prof. Haruna Abdul Kaita, and lamented that, a situation where some of the affected persons were reinstated based on Man-Know-Man factor, is unacceptable and called on the Ministry of Education to investigate the matter.

Briefing Journalists in Kaduna, six out of the affected lecturers disclosed that their appointments, which got terminated on the mentioned date were regularised by the Federal Character Commission in February, 2016. “And the Management of Federal University Dutsinma has no justified reason to keep posting them, especially when new employments are being made.

“As we speak, employment of staff is going on, and they keep telling us to wait .We are feeling cheated especially, when we hear that new lecturers have been recruited”, they said.

While kicking against what they described as false media information in the interview the current Vice Chancellor, Professor Arma Bichi granted to NAN on August 21, 2017, where he was quoted to say, “The Federal University Dutsinma in Katsina State has reinstated 300 academic and non-academic staff allegedly sacked by the institution’s former Vice Chancellor, Haruna Kaita”, describing it as false.

While debunking the statement above, the group said the claim was nothing but misleading and far from the truth.

This according them is untrue and urged the Federal government to compel the VC to obey the directive given for reinstatement of all affected lecturers.

The leader of the team who spoke on plea of anonymity said, “If the VC in the interview acknowledged that the disengagement of lecturers was illegal, what is the rationale for failing to recall them?”

He said, the VC who, “On assumption of office, he discovered that the staff were illegally disengaged and admitted that the staff were dismissed without due approval of the university’s council, now pretend we don’t exist”.

However, they said their investigations show that his claim to have reinstated 300 sacked staff is far from reality, as many of them were still in anticipation of their recall to the service.

When contacted to react to the allegations raised by the six disengaged lecturers, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Arma Bichi said, ” The paper obtained from the Federal Ministry of Education and this remaining staff are last to be recall . As at now council has approved their recall and we are waiting funds from government to effect the council’s directives.

On the said interview granted to NAN, said, “I have never told anybody that all staff where recalled may be, I was quoted out of content.

“And it’s a lie that people were recalled on personality criteria. Council gave directives on how to recall the sacked staff which we are following the criteria based on white.”

Meanwhile, the lecturers believed that the VC is economical with the truth noting, “The excuse of no funds is unacceptable and flimsy”.

“We want to return to work and contribute our quota to the development of the university.” They said.
