The Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Chief Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano has presented brand new wheel-chairs to over one hundred walking impaired persons.
The wheelchairs were made to suit the degree of impairment of the beneficiaries, bringing the total to 1,800 donated so far.
Chief Mrs. Ebelechukwu who was joined by her husband, Governor Willie Obiano during the presentation which took place at the Governor’s Lodge Amawbia LGA of the State said the aim of the wheelchairs was to enhance mobility among those who cannot walk, adding that about two thousand more wheelchairs will be presented in due course.
The Governor’s wife disclosed that about three hundred physically challenged persons who have been measured to ascertain their various artificial limb sizes will soon be taking care of.
Contributing, Governor Obiano emphasized the need for affluent members of the public to always use their God’s given wealth in touching lives.
According to him, over two hundred and sixty persons living with disabilities in the state, with necessary work and academic qualifications, have been shortlisted for immediate employment into the state’s workforce.
In their respective addresses, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Disability Matters, Mr Chuks Ezewuzie, and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Social Welfare, Women and Children Affairs, Dr. Azuka Ofomata, said the donation have put the present administration in the good book of human history.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Indigenous Medicine and Herbal Practice, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, and the State APGA Woman Leader, Lady Chinwe Ibenta, said the initiative is strong compliment to the landmark successes of the Caring Family Enhancement Initiative, CAFE, in giving hope to the hopeless.
The State Chairman of the Joint Association of Persons Living with Disabilities, Mr. Lawrence Nwanolue, said the governor’s wife’s relationship with persons living with disabilities has been exceptional.
