The Economic Community of West Africa States, (ECOWAS) Pre Election Fact Finding Mission has visited the Chairman, lndependent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu to find out his preparedness and challenges for the 2023 general elections that will enable ECOWAS know areas of support.
The leader of the delegation and Former Chairman, Electoral Commission, Ghana, Mr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan who made this known to newsmen during his speech in Abuja on Monday when he led the team to INEC headquarters pledged to support INEC in its efforts to conduct credible elections next year.
Mr Afari-Gyan informed that the fact finding mission will meet with Political Parties,Traditional and religious Institutions, Civil Society Groups, Security Agencies and Ministry of Foreign Affairs on issues relating to the 2023 general election.
In his response, INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu explained that INEC was ready to receive inputs from the international community to assist in conducting credible and acceptable elections in 2023.
He emphasised that the Commission is ready to conduct credible elections driven by technology and will be having it’s quarterly meeting with major stakeholders this week as part of the preparations for the election.
