General Charles Airhiavbere (rtd), the All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant in Edo State forthcoming governorship election has affirmed that he has the capacity to collapse the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structure to add to what APC already have if given the mandate.
This is even as he decried that the incumbent Governor, Godwin Obaseki took APC mandate to PDP, maintaining that APC is ready to take the mantle back from him if elected as he is the man with the capacity face him, and return the mandate to the APC.
Airhiavbere who stated this to journalists at the APC National Secretariat shortly after submitting his Nomination and Expression of Interest Forms on Monday in Abuja, promised to work tirelessly to make sure that APC will present the best candidate which he is the best one.
“I can assure that I have the capacity to collapse structures in PDP to add to what we already have in APC.
“The governor took our mandate to PDP, so we are ready to take it from him. The man with the capacity must face him to make sure we return this mandate to the APC. That’s why I’m in the race.
“The PDP’s governorship candidate in 2012, before joining the APC, said he’s the best candidate to face the Godwin Obaseki-led Edo governorship election train.
“We are going to work tirelessly to make sure that APC will present the best candidate, and I can assure you the best is the one standing right before you.
Speaking on insecurity during his speech, Gen. Arhiavbere informed that if elected, he would employ different Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance the security architecture of Edo state such as robotics, surveillance cameras in blind spots across Edo and drones.
According to him, lack of insecurity has indeed hindered many sons and daughters of the state from coming back and developing in there father land which he vowed would not continue if becomes the governor.
“There are so many of our children in Diaspora who want to come home, l also have some of my children when i served in Washington, and they turn to ask me every day that is Nigeria safe enough for us to come back home and l said yes come home.
“That negative presentation of this country and in our state, we have a lot of people in Diaspora who want to come home to invest, so that takes me to the next pillar of my agenda, which is the infrastructure development of my state.
“We have the opportunity to make Edo state safe, peaceful, using the security apparatus available to us, using internal democracy, believe in people, believe in ourselves, collaborating effectively with the federal government to ensure peace reigns in Edo state.
“Is not through vigilante, putting
arms in the hands of untrained people.I think we can do it differently, you have robotics, you have cameras, today we have drones, and artificial intelligence that can bring security to the people.
“There are some countries, they have operational rooms, anything happening anywhere it is known, these are the new technology that i will introduce that will make the people comfortable” he stressed.
On infrastructure, Arhiavbere maintained that effort would be made to give legal backing to a state infrastructure commission that will be saddled with the responsibility of turning Edo state to development site.
He opined that the Commission will be empowered to go into agreement with development partners, interested in satellite towns and who are interested in moving people out of the railroad.
“This commission will be empowered to go into agreement with development partners, those who are interested in satellite towns, those who are interested in moving people out of the railroad.
“Those who are interested in toying road, there’s no reason why you are in the states and you’re still afraid or governor will start a road in four, five years and cannot complete it.
“The commission now different from the powers of the ministry, will accomplish it in terms of schools, in terms of vocational training centers, hospitals, these are infrastructural development platforms that our foreign partners are interested in” he noted.
“You can’t but encourage people by giving it a legal backing and on that note, i intend to take through the state House of Assembly pass a bill to approve the new state Infrastructure Development Commission.
