The National Sports Commission (NSC) has praised the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF) for organizing a training programme for its athletes and coaches.

The commendation was made by Mr. Olusola Fayoyiwa, the Deputy Director of the Coaching and Technical Unit of the Federation of Elite Athletes Department, during a visit to the training center at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

Mr. Fayoyiwa expressed optimism that the regular training would enhance the performance of bot athletes and coaches.

“I am happy with what I saw here because this is the direction of the present leadership of the commission, how we can improve on our performance and at the same time catch them from the grassroots.”

The training programme, which is being coordinated by globally sought-after weightlifting coach Maged Salama from Austria, aims to impart techniques and knowledge to the athletes and coaches.

Mr. Fayoyiwa commended the federation for blending younger athletes with more experienced ones, saying, “Coming here to see young athletes performing along with the older ones shows the synergy that the Federation is planning ahead.”

The Deputy Director also highlighted the need for better equipment and facilities, stating, “We don’t have the standard facilities that can push us forward.”

However, he assured that the Commission would look into addressing these challenges.

The one-week training programme, which started on Monday, has 30 participants, including 22 athletes and 8 coaches.

The programme is expected to end on Sunday.
