The Minister of Interior, Retired Lieutenant General Abdulrahaman Dambazau has told the staff of the Nigeria Prisons Service that the era of promoting officers on the ground that vacancies exist is over.
The Minister who gave the warning in Ebonyi State at a one day working visit inspection of ongoing projects to the state said henceforth only officers who are living up to their responsibility will be promoted.
Retired Lieutenant General Dambazau who was received on arrival by Ebonyi Deputy Governor, Dr. Kelechi Igwe was of the opinion that the Federal Government has plans to build capacity of staff under the Ministry continued maintained that promotion of officers will be based on merit.
Earlier in his remark, Ebonyi State Governor, Mr. David Umahi explained that the building of new prisons complex in its efforts to help decongest the overcrowded prison yards in the State was in line with the ongoing prisons reform in the country.
The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Dr Kelechi Igwe stressed that the execution of high quality projects in the state was due to Governor Umahi’s high skilled experience in engineering to governance.
According to our Correspondent who was at the scene of the on-going projects inspection by the Minister report that the projects include pulverization plant at Umughara Ezza North Local Government area, ecumenical centre, shopping mall, new Governor’s office and the new prisons complex.
