The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr. Bitrus Bako Nabasu has observed that the President Executive Order No. 5 for Planning and Executive of Projects, Promotion of Nigerian Contents, Engineer and Technology will guarantee home grown capability and capacity to maintain, re-design, re-produce, domesticate and duplicate any infrastructure that is build in Nigeria for self-reliance and development.
Mr. Nabasu who made the observation during his keynote address at the North-West Dialogue on the National Science, Technology and Innovation Roadmap (NSTIR) 2030 and the presentation of the Presidential Executive Order No.5: “Catalysis of Nigeria’s Economic Growth and Competitiveness” at the Nigeria Institute for Trypanosomiasis Research on Friday, 17th of August, 2018 said the Order is also the key to achieving the nations development goals across all sectors of the economy.
According to him, the Order has the objective of building the capacity of Nigeria professionals, contractors, particularly those involved in science, engineering and technological programmes and contracts to favorable compete with their counterparts globally which would ensure acceleration of the process of technology acquisition and utilization for rapid and sustainable growth and development of the nation.
The Permanent Secretary was of the opinion that the Executive Order will showcases the commitment of government in the promotion of domestic and foreign investments, creation of employment and he stimulation of the national economy, saying government is determine that the Order succeeds.
He said “That is why the Presidential Monitoring and Evaluation Council is chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari with almost all the members of the Federal Executive Council as members signed on the 2nd of February, 2018.
“Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) constitute the engine of socio-economic advancement of many countries which the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology (FMST) has taken into cognizance, and therefore developed the National science and technology Roadmap 2017-2030 to accelerate the countries growth and development within the shortest time possible.
“The framework is step by step approach to lead a knowledge driven economy. The Executive Order is a deliberate step by this administration to usher in a new dawn in Nigeria.
“A Nigeria where professionals in all spheres of endeavor will participate and make their constributions for its growth and sustainable development” he stressed.
