The Northern Senators Forum on Thursday condoled the people and government of Borno State following the tragic collapse of the Alau Dam, resulting in the loss of lives and property.
A press statement which was made available to newsmen and signed by the Forum’s Chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua in Abuja, expressed its sympathy to the families of the victims and those displaced by the devastating flood.
The Northern Senators Forum called on all states to prioritize the development of strategic plans to combat climate change and prevent future environmental catastrophes.
They assured its commitment to advancing legislation and policies that mitigate the effects of such disasters while promoting sustainable development.
The Forum therefore commended Vice President Kashim Shettima for his prompt visit to the affected area, acknowledging his leadership in assessing the situation and providing immediate government support.
Senator Yar’Adua informed that the Vice President’s swift response reflected the administration’s dedication to aiding affected communities during such crises.
They also lauded President Bola Tinubu for approving N3 billion for each state to address flood and disaster relief.
The funds are seen as a crucial step toward alleviating the suffering of citizens impacted by environmental disasters.
