In a landmark first for the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), all 3,785 staff members across Nigeria are undergoing comprehensive capacity-building training, an unprecedented move that insiders say has reset the culture of the Commission and positioned it as a frontline driver of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The ambitious rollout, which cuts across every cadre, department, and state office of NIMC, is the brainchild of the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Engr. (Dr.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, whose leadership has been described by staff as nothing short of transformational.

For years, NIMC’s workforce had endured minimal training opportunities and low morale.

But the arrival of Coker-Odusote has ignited sweeping reforms, from staff welfare and professional development to the provision of modern tools and workspaces, turning what was once considered a stagnant bureaucracy into a rejuvenated institution.

Across the federation, from state capitals to local government offices, staff who once felt neglected are now brimming with enthusiasm.

Many openly praised the DG’s inclusive approach, which has ensured that no cadre is left behind in the ongoing training program.

“Since I joined NIMC, this is the first time I have seen all of us, junior and senior staff alike, given equal opportunities for training,” one staff member in Kano said. “It shows the DG is serious about building us, not just using us.”

Coker-Odusote’s leadership extends far beyond training initiatives.

In less than a year, she has secured a 25–35% salary increment for NIMC staff, distributed over 2,500 enrollment devices nationwide to ease data capture bottlenecks, and introduced welfare measures that staff describe as “unprecedented.”

At the Abuja headquarters, she approved extra transport allowances and deployed free staff buses to ease daily commuting struggles.

Offices across Nigeria are receiving modern furniture, updated equipment, and operational resources that had been absent for years.

“This is not just about work tools; it’s about dignity,” a staffer in Enugu remarked. “For the first time, we feel valued as professionals.”

Observers says Coker-Odusote’s efforts align directly with President Tinubu’s directive that MDAs must prioritize capacity building as a cornerstone of national development.

By creating a better-trained, better-motivated workforce, NIMC is not only strengthening identity management but also reinforcing national security, economic planning, and service delivery for millions of Nigerians.

With staff morale soaring and capacity boosted nationwide, many within and outside the Commission say NIMC has entered a new era of productivity and relevance.

“Dr. Coker-Odusote has rewritten the story of NIMC,” one senior officer noted.

“She is building an institution where competence, welfare, and national service go hand in hand. This is how to deliver the Renewed Hope Agenda.
