The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully completed a critical logistical milestone as one of its C-130 transport aircraft arrived safely in Lisbon, Portugal, for scheduled depot-level maintenance underscoring renewed emphasis on airworthiness, safety and long-term fleet sustainability.

The aircraft, identified as NAF 913, touched down on December 26, 2025, at OGMA, Portugal’s renowned aircraft maintenance facility, after a carefully executed ferry flight that transited Banjul and Casablanca.

According to NAF officials, the journey was completed without incident and strictly in line with updated flight planning and established aviation safety procedures.

The arrival marks the final phase of a planned movement aimed at ensuring the aircraft undergoes comprehensive maintenance to extend its operational life and reliability.

Military aviation experts say such depot maintenance is critical for sustaining heavy-lift capability, especially as the Air Force continues to support both security operations and humanitarian missions nationwide.

All crew members arrived safely and in high morale, the Air Force confirmed, adding that coordination with host authorities along the transit route was seamless.

The NAF expressed appreciation to the aviation and security agencies in The Gambia, Morocco and Portugal for their cooperation during the multi-leg flight.

Beyond the technical significance, the successful ferry operation sends a broader signal about institutional discipline and operational accountability within the Nigerian Air Force.

Fleet sustainment, officials note, is increasingly viewed as a strategic enabler one that directly impacts mission readiness across multiple theatres.

In reaffirming its commitment to the highest standards of safety and professionalism, the Air Force said the operation reflects its ongoing drive to balance operational tempo with rigorous maintenance culture.

As NAF 913 enters depot care in Lisbon, the message from the service is clear: air power is not only about sorties flown, but about the systems, planning and precision that keep aircraft ready to fly again.
