In a bold move to cushion economic hardship and uplift vulnerable citizens, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin (CFR, FCNA), has announced a massive ₦200 million empowerment initiative targeting 10,000 less privileged persons across the 44 local government areas of Kano State.
According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, the life-changing intervention executed through the Barau I. Jibrin Foundation (BIJF) will see each beneficiary receive ₦20,000 cash support beginning Thursday, October 9, 2025, when the selection process and form distribution officially commence.
The foundation, established by Senator Barau, has a track record of impactful social interventions, including foreign postgraduate scholarships for indigent Kano students and major projects in education, healthcare, agriculture, security, and transport.
Mudashir revealed that 6,500 beneficiaries will emerge from Kano North Senatorial District, the Deputy Senate President’s constituency, with 500 persons to be selected from each of its 13 local government areas.
Another 112 individuals will be drawn from each LGA in Kano Central and Kano South districts.
“This initiative is part of His Excellency’s continuous drive to make a direct, positive impact on the lives of the less privileged,” Mudashir said. “Empowering women and youth remains central to Senator Barau’s vision for sustainable growth and development across the North and Nigeria at large.”
The move has been widely lauded as a significant economic relief gesture amid rising inflation and worsening poverty levels.
Observers note that Barau’s grassroots approach focused on direct financial empowerment underscores his hands-on leadership style and growing political influence across Kano State.
The Barau I. Jibrin Foundation continues to position itself as one of the most active philanthropic organizations in northern Nigeria, with ongoing efforts to bridge economic gaps and empower communities through education and welfare support.
