In a strategic move that signals deeper consolidation of federal digital infrastructure, Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB) has opened partnership talks with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), positioning itself as the secure technology backbone for one of Nigeria’s most expansive public institutions.

Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Backbone, Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, made the pitch during a high-level courtesy visit to the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja, where he praised the Scheme’s enduring role in fostering national unity while seeking collaboration on information technology services.

The meeting, though ceremonial in tone, underscores a broader digital alignment within the Federal Government as agencies increasingly centralize data management amid rising cybersecurity threats and regulatory compliance demands.

Adeyanju described Galaxy Backbone as the Federal Government’s core digital infrastructure platform, responsible for delivering secure internet connectivity and data services to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

“We are open to partnership,” Adeyanju said, emphasizing that any institution leveraging Galaxy Backbone’s services would have its data protected in line with Nigerian laws.

He specifically proposed upgrading digital infrastructure across NYSC State Secretariat is nationwide, a network that spans all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, managing sensitive personal data of hundreds of thousands of corps members annually.

For Galaxy Backbone, the partnership represents both an operational expansion and a strategic consolidation of government-wide data architecture under a secure, standardized platform.

In his remarks, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, Director-General of the NYSC, welcomed the overture and reaffirmed the Scheme’s commitment to modernization.

Describing NYSC as a “household name,” Nafiu highlighted its longstanding mandate of deploying graduates outside their states of origin to promote integration and national cohesion a policy he said has built a formidable workforce for Nigeria despite operational challenges.

With over five decades of operation, the NYSC manages vast administrative processes from mobilization and deployment to payment systems and service records making digital resilience increasingly critical.

Nafiu commended Galaxy Backbone’s initiatives and assured Adeyanju that the NYSC management would review the partnership proposal.

“The Scheme is ready to partner with any agency that will strengthen its operations,” he said.

The proposed collaboration comes at a time when public sector institutions are under pressure to enhance cybersecurity safeguards, streamline service delivery and comply with Nigeria’s data protection framework.

Analysts note that centralizing digital infrastructure through a government-backed platform like Galaxy Backbone could reduce fragmentation, limit exposure to cyber threats and drive cost efficiencies across MDAs.

For NYSC, enhanced digital capacity could improve administrative speed, data management accuracy and nationwide coordination.

For Galaxy Backbone, onboarding a nationwide institution such as NYSC would reinforce its position as the Federal Government’s primary digital infrastructure provider.

Beyond the symbolism of the visit, the engagement reflects a broader shift toward digital-first governance where infrastructure partnerships become as strategic as policy reforms.

As federal agencies navigate expanding digital footprints, the success of collaborations like this may determine how effectively Nigeria secures its public data ecosystem.

If formalized, the partnership could mark another step in the Federal Government’s effort to align national service administration with secure, scalable digital infrastructure strengthening both operational efficiency and data sovereignty.

The discussions remain at proposal stage, but the message from Abuja is clear: Nigeria’s digital future will be built on stronger inter-agency collaboration and institutions like NYSC are central to that architecture.
