Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has reaffirmed the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s commitment to full-scale implementation of its electronic membership registration exercise, describing it as a critical step toward deepening internal party structure and technological innovation.
Speaking to journalists in an interview shortly after the inspection of the new established ICT Hug at the Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday, Governor Uzodimma said the purpose of the visit was to inspect the readiness of the facilities and evaluate progress made so far.
“We are here at the National Working Committee (NWC) 177th regular meeting to consider and deliberate on sundry Party matters and activities and to monitor and evaluate the extent of the e-registration exercise,” Uzodimma stated.
“We inspected and conducted a trip around the facilities and we are highly impressed with what we saw. We are confident that any moment from now, the e-registration exercise will begin in full force.”
When asked about President Bola Tinubu’s directive for the establishment of a new APC National Secretariat, Uzodimma said efforts are ongoing.
“It is still a work in progress. We are working on it,” he said briefly.
On the party’s new National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who is Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje’s successor, Uzodimma stated that APC members appear visibly pleased with the new leadership.
Gov. Uzodimma praised the new Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, as the right man to lead the party forward.
“Look at him here, a handsome, tall man, full of energy and intelligence,” he said. “Our party is excited and happy with the choice of our new National Chairman. We are confident he embodies what the APC needs at this time.”
Reacting to recent remarks by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which claimed that re-electing the APC would be disastrous for Nigeria, Gov. Uzodimma dismissed the statement as political posturing.
“You called it a claim and that’s what it is, their claim, not ours. As far as I’m concerned, there are only two political parties in Nigeria: the All Progressives Congress and others,” he quipped.
Addressing questions on his relationship with the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), the newly appointed APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, described the ties between the party leadership and governors as “cordial and exemplary.”
“You can see how the Governors relate with the party. You can see how the members are engaging. We’ve made APC attractive — to the people, to the nation, and to our Governors,” he said.
Prof. Yilwatda, added that the APC is setting the standard for political organization in Nigeria and is committed to leveraging technology to enhance party operations and membership data.
“We want to lead in all respects, including technology. With e-registration, we’ll know exactly how many members we have, who are supporting us, and where our base lies in each state,” Yilwatda explained. “This will help us with planning, research, and building stronger relationships with members at all levels.”
Also speaking, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State echoed the party’s united front, emphasizing the leadership of President Bola Tinubu and the cohesive role of the PGF.
“We are working as a team under the leadership of Mr. President. The Chairman of the PGF has spoken, and he has spoken to our minds. Thank you,” Governor Ododo said.
The event highlighted APC’s efforts to modernize its internal processes and reinforce unity among its leaders as the party gears up for future electoral engagements.
