The Northern Leaders has setup a technical committee to work on pressing issues such, as constitutional reform, fiscal responsibility of sharing revenues, national minimum wage, among other crucial issues.

The Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal who served as the Chairman of Technical Committee on restructuring said violence does no good to anybody, not to talk of a country like ours and if we have a great country like Nigeria, we remain committed to the unity of the country.

He made this assertion during a press briefing shortly after a closed door meeting of the Northern Leaders at the Hassan Usman Katsina House Kaduna State, North-West, Nigeria where he appealed to Nigerian citizens to exercise restrained and remain calm.

The Governor affirmed the commitment of northern leaders towards maintaining a united Nigeria for all and sundry, saying that the more united Nigeria is, the good for Nigerians.

His words: “We agreed that the technical committee should work on the previous documents, conferences and position papers and then come back to us within three weeks. Thereafter, every state will conduct public hearing and we will be meeting on 24th October by the grace of God to review all that. So, by the end of October, God willing, we shall be able to get back to the larger body of the northern governors forum and northern traditional leaders and Council”.

“So that we can collate and subject issues brought by technical committee to a very robust debate across the North and the outcome of that will be presented to northern governors and traditional rulers.”

He added that “there is process going on in the country for engagement and I am sure the federal government is willing to listen to all these agitations at the end of the day. And even if you embark on a war at this stage, you don’t get result through war, you will always come back to the round table and discuss,” he concluded.

Also at the meeting, the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi also reiterated the commitment of the Northern leaders towards ensuring that Nigeria is united at all times. Adding that, “Northern leaders are going to have a regional conversation to express the pressing issues that have been raised.”

Also at the meeting were the governors of Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir El-rufai, Tanko Almukara of Nassarawa state and other traditional rulers from the north.
