In a strong push to promote preventive healthcare and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the Deputy National Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hajiya Zainab Abubakar Ibrahim, on Wednesday led a free medical outreach at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
The initiative, themed “Know Your Status”, offered free blood pressure and blood sugar testing to party staff, benefiting 192 individuals despite weather-related delays.
Participants also received medical consultations, health talks, and lifestyle advice from a team of professional doctors and nurses.
To cushion the economic burden on beneficiaries, the outreach included the distribution of palliatives such as rice, bread, sugar, macaroni, and cooked meals in line with the President’s agenda to alleviate poverty and improve citizens’ welfare.
Hajiya Zainab, who also chairs the Governing Board of Federal Teaching Hospitals, said the outreach was a direct response to growing health risks, especially the increasing incidence of sudden deaths linked to undiagnosed conditions.
“A healthy workforce is a productive workforce,” she said. “With the rise in sudden health crises like hypertension and diabetes, it’s critical that our people know their status early. Most of these illnesses are lifestyle-related and can be managed with the right knowledge and habits.”
While the outreach was open to all, she noted that women were her key focus.
“Women are often caregivers and the backbone of the home and workforce, but we are also the most vulnerable. From pregnancy to daily stress and hormonal changes, women face unique health challenges. This outreach was designed with that in mind though we included everyone to foster unity and inclusion.”
Participants who came in for fasting blood sugar tests were served breakfast immediately after their screening a thoughtful detail to encourage full participation.
Hajiya Zainab emphasized that the outreach would not be a one-time event.
“This is just the beginning. We plan to make this a routine effort to create a healthier environment for our people. Health is wealth, and we must prioritize it.”
She also called on Nigerians to take their health seriously through regular checkups and early interventions, stressing that most non-communicable diseases can be managed if detected on time.
The medical outreach highlights the APC Women Wing’s commitment to community health, grassroots engagement, and President Tinubu’s broader vision of inclusive national development anchored on well-being and social support.
