The Director General Media and Publicity to former Kaduna State Governor, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, Ahmed Miyake has commended the present Kaduna State Government for abolishing the monthly honorarium handed out to journalists in the state.
He stated this while speaking at the 2018 Africa Media Development Foundation-AMDF Media Clinic with the Theme: ‘The Media and Ethical Reporting’ held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists-NUJ Kaduna State Council Secretariat, North-West, Nigeria on Thursday.
According to him, by cancelling the honorarium by the state government, the journalists in the state have gain more respect and do their work without fair or favour to any organization of government.
“Since you have not be paying this honorarium, have die, are not eating or feeding your families. To me you have even gain more respect from the state government and to yourselves. You stories is more objective and fairness” he stressed.
Mallam Miyaki charged Kaduna-based journalists to adhere to ethical standards when doing their reports to avoid harassment and intimidation.
The former Director General Media and Publicity however frowned at the non-payment of salaries to journalists by some media houses for more than three years.
He commended the Foundation for putting up the media clinic and called on other non-governmental organization to emulate and support for the foundation in its course.
