The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Oyo State, in collaboration with security agencies and political stakeholders, on Wednesday, facilitated the signing of a peace accord among candidates contesting the forthcoming Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election scheduled for Saturday, August 16, 2025.
The ceremony, held at the INEC Collation Centre in Ibadan, brought together the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Tella Adeniran Rahmon, members of the commission’s management team, Oyo State Commissioner of Police Femi Haruna, and the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES).
In his address, Dr. Rahmon urged all candidates and their supporters to maintain decorum, civility, and sportsmanship throughout the remaining campaign period, which ends on Thursday, August 14.
He reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to delivering a credible, transparent, and peaceful election.
Five political parties signed the accord: Hon. Dexter Femi Alamu (ADC), Hon. Olatunji Olabisi (APGA), Hon. Oyekunle Fola Sunday (PDP), Hon. Olatunji Haastup Adewale (APC), and Hon. Hammed Badmus (ZLP).
By signing the document, the candidates pledged to abide by the electoral rules and accept the results of the poll in good faith.
The event was attended by representatives of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, religious leaders including the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Chairman and the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, political party officials, and members of the media.
