Fiditi, a historic town in Afijio Local Government Area of Oyo State, will on Friday stand still as family members, community leaders and worshippers gather to bid farewell to one of its most respected elders, Chief Moses Adegbite (JP), whose remains will be laid to rest on January 30, 2026.
Chief Adegbite, fondly known as “Imperial”, passed on November 14, 2025, at the age of 86, after a brief illness, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service and quiet leadership that spanned decades.
He was the father of the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC), a connection that has further drawn national attention to his final rites.
Funeral activities will commence on Thursday, January 29, with a wake-keep at Akio’s Compound in Fiditi, where family, friends and well-wishers are expected to pay tribute to a man widely regarded as a moral compass and stabilising influence within the community.
The burial ceremony proper will take place on Friday, beginning with a thanksgiving service at the Methodist Church Nigeria, Fiditi Circuit, where Chief Adegbite worshipped for years and served with unwavering devotion.
Thereafter, he will be committed to mother earth in accordance with Christian rites.
Described by those close to him as a man of deep faith and calm authority, Chief Adegbite’s life was defined by service to God, commitment to community development and an enduring belief in peaceful coexistence.
As a Justice of the Peace, he was known for dispensing counsel with wisdom and fairness, earning respect across generational lines.
Family sources say his passing has left a profound void in Fiditi, but also a powerful reminder of a life well lived, one anchored on humility, integrity and service to humanity.
As Fiditi prepares to host mourners from within and beyond Oyo State, the burial is expected to be both a solemn farewell and a celebration of a patriarch whose influence quietly shaped lives and strengthened institutions.
Chief Moses Adegbite is survived by children, grandchildren and a community that now bears the task of preserving his values.
May his soul rest in perfect peace.
