The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed reports claiming it has suspended the delineation of wards in the Warri Federal Constituency of Delta State, insisting that no such decision has been made.
National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), Sam Olumekun In a press statement, clarified that while the Commission has yet to make a final ruling on the Supreme Court-directed delineation in Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South West, the process remains active.
He cautioned the public against misinformation and urged stakeholders in the affected areas to remain calm as the exercise progresses.
Meanwhile, the Commission announced a massive wave of participation in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), now in its sixth week.
Figures show that over 6.2 million Nigerians have completed online pre-registration, with youths and women leading the charge.
According to INEC, young Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 34 accounted for 67.9% of registrants, while women made up 52.1%. Students also turned out strongly with more than 1.56 million pre-registrations.
Encouragingly, 137,865 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) were captured, reflecting growing inclusivity in the process.
At the state level, Borno led the pack with 682,805 registrants, followed by Osun (599,363) and Lagos (555,442).
States like Abia, Enugu, and Ondo posted significantly lower numbers, while Anambra remained suspended due to legal provisions ahead of the November 8 governorship election.
INEC’s Week Five statistics showed a further 1 million registrations completed both online and physically, with women again outpacing men and youths dominating participation.
The Commission described the overwhelming turnout of young people and women as a defining feature of the exercise, commending Nigerians for their engagement and urging those who registered online to complete biometric capture at designated centres.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and credible elections, INEC assured that every valid registration will count as Nigeria prepares for upcoming polls.
